By 2025 Canada’s immigration levels will involve a greater allotment under Express Entry. Admissions under the Federal Economic Programs will climb to 124,590 from 110,770 in 2024. They say that this increase indicates that Express Entry will be central to Canada’s immigration system, selecting highly skilled workers.
Reduced Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allocations also mean more applicants will have to compete in Express Entry for immigration pathways. Today, Express Entry’s share of the country’s total immigration target will stand at 31.5 percent, compared to 22.8 percent in 2024.
A significant change under the upcoming changes to Express Entry in 2025 is the removal of CRS points for valid job offers. Under an expression regime that goes into effect in the spring of 2025, candidates in the Express Entry pool will no longer receive additional points for having a job offer. Right now these points may vary from 50 to even 200 depending on the skill level in the job.
While this will translate into softening certain CSRs of certain candidates, it also assures that applicants have to concentrate on aspects aside from CSRs, namely language proficiency, work experience, and education to stay competitive. The Federal High-Skilled (FHS) allocation, which has traditionally governed Express Entry admissions, will be replaced in 2025 by two new subcategories: Federal economic priorities and their focus on Canada, or the other way around.
